Sogecable and Astra bolster Spanish satellite HD

SES Astra is to lease another two transponders to Sogecable as part of the development of its high definition offer. The transponders will go live later this year.Sogecable has been broadcasting on Astra at 19 degrees East since 1993, but the Spanish paycaster continues to dual illuminate its Digital+ pay package on the domestic Hispasat system at 30 degrees West.

Astra currently reaches 1.9 million free and pay-TV households in Spain. As of June 30, 2010 subscriber numbers to Digital+ stood at 1,784,843.

In all 135 HD channels are broadcast across the Astra satellite system.

Digi TV transition to a newer version of Nagravision 3/4 (Media Access Nagra) imply a need for exchange access cards to all subscribers. The event is more secure programs against illegal income.
